Soil: Choose a sunny site, remove any vegetation, and till soil. Cosmos prefer well-drained soil with moderately low fertility.

Sow: Broadcast seed on soil top and cover lightly for protection from wind and birds. Do not bury seeds.

Water: Cosmos require very little moisture once established. Water only when soil is dry; overwatering leads to fewer blooms.

Sunlight: Best in full sun; can tolerate partial shade in very hot climates.

Flowers: Pick spent blossoms to encourage new growth.

Coverage: About 3–4 sq. ft. per 1/2 teaspoon scoop

Berkeley Planting Window: Sow before August 1. Cosmos bloom continuously from about 7–8 weeks after sowing until frost, so the earlier you plant, the longer your bloom season; but any time before August still gives you flowers before the season winds down.
